Tips for Decorating the Christmas Tree

Each year at Christmas, we all eagerly look forward to pulling out the bins and boxes of Christmas decorations that we lovingly have collected and enjoy using with our families. Those traditions hold memories and each and every ornament that we pull out can be filled with wonderment and joy. I so enjoy decorating the tree and adding such a peaceful and beautiful addition to the living room every Christmas.

Today I’ll share a few tips for putting together and decorating the perfect tree. We all have different likes and methods for doing things, but this works for me, so hopefully you’ll get some ideas from it.

I have a certain way I go about decorating my tree and although I’m not the expert on all things Christmas and don’t decorate for others, I love a beautifully decorated tree for the Christmas season and have been decorating for the Holidays for many years.

Adding these gorgeous glass ornaments from Tree Classics gave my tree extra sparkle and shine this year. They are large and make a statement on the tree.

I just love how beautiful these ornaments are and they will end up being family heirlooms, I’m sure.

The first thing I do after my tree is up and lit is to add ribbon. Pre-lit trees are the best! You can add ribbon in several different ways from wrapping it around the tree like I have done here, or you can start at the top and cascade down the tree, tucking the ribbon into the branches to create fullness with the ribbon. One tip I have is to definitely use wired ribbon. Wired ribbon makes all the difference in how the finished product looks and it’s also so easy to work with. Wired ribbon holds it shape.

Once the ribbon is on the tree, I then add the largest ornaments to the tree making sure to space them around the tree for maximum impact. I have lots of medium to smaller ornaments that are great for filling in, but the larger ones will show up the most from a distance.

I also like to add faux flowers, sprays and berries to the tree to add extra texture and beauty. The more decorations you tuck in and around the branches, the more full and lush the tree will look. My flocked tree from Tree Classics is very full and lush to begin with and all these gold and silver ornaments add an elegant shimmery look to the white lights on the tree. There is nothing better than a decorated and lit Christmas tree to make your room sparkle and shine!

I love a mix of metallic ornaments and neutral colors for Christmas, but you should decorate with ornaments that are special to you and your family. Decorating a Christmas tree is all about making special memories with your family, so use traditional Christmas colors or whatever makes you happy. Ribbons, hanging ornaments and special touches, like wrapped boxes under the tree make a wonderful Holiday even more memorable.

I have a few ornaments that are favorites that I’ve had many years, like this flying Santa. He’s so sweet and nostalgic and I love putting him on the tree every year.

Don’t forget to add a tree topper. My favorite way to dress the top of my tree is to add sprays of berries, feathers and faux foliage, all in metallic tones, but again it’s all about what theme or colors you are using. A topper that reaches to the ceiling and cascades out will look beautiful on the top of your tree.

Enjoy the Christmas season and make the tree special with a few of these tips. I hope this gave you extra ideas on making your Christmas tree decorating more memorable and beautiful for your family.

The Christmas tree is the heart of the home during this special time of the year, so make it as beautiful and special as you can!
