Jennifer Lutz on Being a Mother

I love the juxtaposition of the baby, toddler, preschool pics with my elementary age kids. When everyone was under the age of 5 years, I held my breath on most days, praying I would make it through. Much older and wiser moms would tell me to enjoy it as much as I could because though the days felt long, the years were certainly short. Now that they’re all in school and feeling so grown up compared to those baby pics, I understand how quickly time passes. I am grateful for their lives. Motherhood is a joy.

  2. I have spent the past few days with so many memories careening through my head…in the midst of many tears. I am the Mom of a 17 yr old daughter & 15 yr old son. My daughter is headed to college in the fall, while my son will be a sophomore in high school. And earlier this week, we found that our beloved family dog was suffering from cancer and we had to let him move on. Our Ozzy joined our family more than 12 years ago as an 8week old puppy. And he was such a huge part of our family…through moves from Ohio to Florida and back north to Pennsylvania, first days of school, summer vacations, Christmases, Thanksgivings, Easters, joy, sadness, and everything else that every family lives through day to day. My memories of my children growing up with Ozzy are my favorites: from a toddler & preschooler running around the grass with a litter of 4 puppies to choose Ozzy as the one we would bring home…to my son & his ‘canine brother’ playing in the backyard while their sister began school…to Ozzy waiting for the bus to arrive home with each of them every day…to my children confiding secrets to him when they felt they had no one else to talk to…to my teen daughter & Ozzy sunning together on the back deck even just a few weeks ago…and so so so many more. I especially love remembering those early years when my children would practice their newly-learned reading skills on Ozzy…and he was always a captive audience! #MothersDay
